Special Education v. General Education Licensure

I am at a crossroads at what to path to pursue in education.  I could go through the Special Education certification or a K-6th grade elementary licensure.  Does anyone have any ideas as to advantages over one over the other?  Right now there is a need for special education teachers and so it would be possible to get a job quicker.  Any comments?
